Emergency home repair in Boston: what to do first

Shut off water or power first, then when to call a licensed pro via Opa Pro.

Water leak: shut the main valve (often by the basement meter), then check if dripping continues. Ceiling stains or active flooding need an emergency plumber. Gas or rotten-egg smell: leave, do not flip switches, call your gas utility emergency line — do not DIY.

No heat in winter: check thermostat and boiler pressure; if still cold, treat as urgent HVAC. Sparking, burning smell, or repeated breaker trips: turn off the affected circuit and call a licensed electrician.

Non-life-threatening but urgent issues (overflowing toilet, fridge circuit, broken lock) can be photographed safely, then posted on Opa Pro with a note for ASAP scheduling.

Even in emergencies, keep photos and order history. Support can help cancel orders and release card authorizations per our support page.
